Vegan Orange Donuts
Everyone loves donuts, but we might not love all the junky ingredients like artificial colors and flavors that come with the store-bought kinds. Lucky for you, these vegan donuts can be made at home without the additives! What’s more, they’re made with Uncle Matt’s Organic Orange Juice for a perfect citrus twist. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
Donuts:
1 cup organic all-purpose flour
1 ¼ tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp baking soda
¼ cup organic sugar
¼ cup organic olive oil
½ cup organic plant-based milk
¼ cup Uncle Matt’s Organic Orange Juice
1 ½ tsp organic apple cider vinegar
1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
Zest of 1 organic orange
Frosting:
1 cup organic powdered sugar
2 tbsp Uncle Matt’s Organic Orange Juice
Optional garnish decoration:
Slices of an organic orange
1 tbsp organic sugar
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2. Grease a 6-hole donut pan with olive oil
3. Add dry ingredients to a bowl and combine – flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar
4. Add wet ingredients to another bowl and combine – olive oil, plant-based milk, orange juice, apple cider vinegar, vanilla extract and zest
5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until combined and there is no more dry flour. Be sure not to over mix.
6. Spoon the batter into the donut pan.
7. Bake for 20 minutes or until the donuts pass the toothpick test. Leave in the pan for 5 minutes after cooking. Let cool completely on a cooling rack.
8. Make the orange decoration by placing the orange slices on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Sprinkle the oranges with sugar and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Remove and allow to cool completely. The oranges should be moist and chewy.
9. Add powdered sugar to a bowl. Slowly pour orange juice into the sugar stirring as it’s poured. The frosting is ready when it reaches the consistency of a thick white frosting.
10. Drizzle donuts with the frosting and add a baked orange wedge to each one.
