Spring is in the Air with an Organic Lifestyle Refresh
Spring cleaning is in full swing in our organic citrus groves! From weed eating to organic nutritional sprays and timed irrigation, we’re actively supporting our citrus trees so they continue to be strong through the remainder of the growing season. While Mother Nature is setup for success during the spring renewal and growth season, did you know, it’s the perfect time to spring clean your lifestyle and diet, too! Here’s our guide to help you clean up and green up your routine:
- Grocery Shop in Season
While most popular produce can be found year-round, we recommend taking advantage of what’s in season! How can you tell? Look for what’s most abundant in your produce section. Shopping in season means that you’re getting to enjoy nature’s seasonal bounty at peak flavor and freshness! Our friends at Only Organicrecommend spring fruit favorites like strawberries, sweet cherries, apricots, apples, bananas and avocados. For spring veggies, look for asparagus, peas, radishes, artichoke, rhubarb, spinach, beets, carrots, mushrooms and onions – all in organic varieties, of course!

- Shop & Thrift Sustainably
Feeling like your wardrobe needs a spring pick-me up? Whether you’re cleaning out your closet, purchasing new clothing and accessories or a little bit of both, there are ways to do this while minding the health of our planet. As you come across clothing that doesn’t have a home in your closet anymore, consider consigning or donating your clothes rather than just throwing them in the trash. A second life rather than destination landfill is a good repurpose; what might be your old piece of clothing is someone else’s favorite ‘new’ top!
Got a lot of friends who are similar in size? Do a clothing swap! This same tip applies to children’s clothing, too. Hand-me-downs and swaps are the perfect ways to reuse clothing that’s still in great shape without impacting your wallet.
Prefer new clothes? We recommend doing some homework and checking out the sustainability practices of the brand. Are the clothes made from organic cotton or are they produced with harsh chemicals? Conscious shopping decisions like this can go a long way in caring for the future of our environment and keeping your home and body clean.
- Fridge & Pantry Cleanout
Next on our spring-cleaning list: the kitchen! Don’t just throw away the expired products in your fridge. If it’s compost-friendly, add it to your backyard compost pile. Don’t know how to start? We’ve got you covered: check out our compost tips for instructions.
As you’re cleaning out non-compostable items, always recycle the packaging if possible. From plastic bottles to cardboard boxes, all of these can go in the recycling bin. You can also look for opportunities to upcycle glass bottles and other packaging for décor and household organizational needs.
- Clean Smart
When it comes to cleaning your home, it’s important to know what ingredients you’re spraying around your loved ones. Many home cleaning products might be filled with less than desirable chemicals, and some of these suspects are linked to negative health concerns. DIY cleaners are a great alternative to these harsh chemicals because you know exactly what’s being used around your home. Better Homes & Gardens offers a how-to guide for making friendly at-home cleaners. If you prefer the convenience of pre-made household cleaners, the EWG created a list of their healthier verified products to use for home cleaning.
- Eat Organic
Last but definitely not least, spring clean your body by shopping organic! There’s no better way to detox your system than kicking the chemicals and toxic pesticides to the curb. When you eat organic, you’re consuming food free of GMOs, artificial additives and conventional pesticides. Happy Spring!
