Uncle Matt's Announces Changes in Mesh Fruit Bags and Fresh Fruit Cartons for Upcoming 2010-2011 Fruit Season

CLERMONT, FL -- In keeping with its eco-friendly values, Uncle Matt's announced today that it is changing packaging on all fresh fruit bags and fresh fruit cartons. All Uncle Matt's fresh fruit will now utilize Vexar® mesh bags with EcocycleTM technology, while fresh fruit cartons will be manufactured by Pratt Industries with 100% recycled fiber.

Vexar® netting with EcocycleTM Technology offers an effective and economical means of addressing increasing environmental concerns regarding single use packages. Complying with all FDA food contact regulations, EcocycleTM Technology is both recyclable and degradable after 3 to five years. It is also non-toxic -- leaving no harmful residue in the soil or waste streams.

Pratt Industries' 100% recycled fiber box for fruit packaging is also an environmentally responsible choice that will help save trees, oil, water and electricity. Uncle Matt's estimates that by shipping its fruit in the new 100% recycled corrugated boxes that it will save over 3,533 trees, 523 yards of landfill, 900,790 gallons of fresh water, over 74,000 KWH of electricity and 62 tons of CO2 footprint.
